Seaboard® is a marine-grade HDPE sheet — the original boat board and the Australian boat-builder's standard for bait boards, hatches, livewell lids, transoms, gunwale trim, rod holders, helm consoles and cabinetry. Holland Plastics stocks the full Seaboard® range on the Gold Coast in marine white, light grey, dove grey, black, sand and seafoam, cut to size while you wait.

Whenever you're building anything from a boat to outdoor furniture, the marine plastic board you choose matters. Seaboard® won't rot, splinter, delaminate, swell or corrode — and unlike marine plywood, it never needs painting, sealing or sanding back. The textured matt finish hides scratches and grips wet feet, making it the go-to material for fishing boats, cruisers, jet skis, pontoons, charter boats and houseboats up and down the east coast.

Fabrication — Works Like Marine Plywood, Lasts Like Plastic

Seaboard® machines with standard woodworking tooling — you can saw it, drill it, route it, plane it, screw it and bond it just like timber, with no specialist equipment required. Unlike plywood, there's no end-grain to seal, no risk of rot at fastener holes, and no painting to maintain over the life of the boat.

Saw cutting — standard carbide-tipped woodworking blades
CNC routing — ideal for custom marine cabinetry and bait-board cut-outs
Drilling & screwing — holds stainless screws well, no pre-drilling needed for soft fasteners
Hot air welding — for structural butt joints in marine applications
Edge finishing — flame polish or leave the textured cut edge as-is
Bonding — use methacrylate marine adhesives for permanent panel joins

Beyond the Boat — Outdoor & Pool Uses

Seaboard® is just as at home around the pool, on the deck and in commercial outdoor kitchens as it is on the water. The same UV-stable, rot-proof, easy-clean properties that make it the boat-builder's first choice make it perfect for outdoor benchtops, pool equipment cabinets, playground panels, change-room cubicles, and any outdoor cabinetry that needs to last in Queensland weather.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Seaboard® and standard HDPE?+
Seaboard® is a marine-formulated HDPE with full UV stabilisation through every colour (not just black), a textured non-slip matt finish, higher stiffness and tighter thickness tolerance than standard HDPE. Standard black HDPE works outdoors but doesn't come in marine colours, has a smooth gloss surface, and is less stiff for the same thickness.
Is Seaboard® the same as King StarBoard®?+
They are the same family of product — marine-grade HDPE board. King StarBoard® is the original US brand, Seaboard® is the Australian / Asia-Pacific equivalent. Both perform identically and are interchangeable in marine fitouts.
Can I screw and glue Seaboard® like timber?+
You can screw it like timber — stainless self-tapping screws hold well in 9mm and thicker stock with no pre-drilling. Gluing is different: HDPE has very low surface energy, so standard timber glues, epoxies and silicones won't bond. Use methacrylate (MMA) marine adhesives, or hot-air weld for structural joins.
Does Seaboard® need to be sealed or painted?+
No — that's the whole point. The colour goes all the way through the board and the surface is UV-stable. Scratches don't show because the colour is the same underneath. No painting, no sealing, no annual maintenance.
What thickness do I need for a bait board?+
12mm is the standard for bait boards and fish-cleaning stations — stiff enough to mount rod holders and knife holders without flex, light enough not to load up the gunwale. For larger fish-cleaning tables (over 600mm × 400mm) step up to 15mm or 19mm.
