Thermoforming is a manufacturing process for thermoplastic sheet or film. The sheet or film is heated between infrared, natural gas, or other heaters to its forming temperature. Then it is stretched over or into a temperature-controlled, single-surface mold.

Cast or machined aluminum is the most common mold material, although epoxy and wood tooling are sometime used for low volume production. The sheet is held against the mold surface unit until cooled. The formed part is then trimmed from the sheet.

Thermoforming FAQs

What is thermoforming used for?+
Thermoforming is used to shape thermoplastic sheet into custom 3D parts such as illuminated sign faces, machine guards, point-of-sale displays, boat windscreens, dashboards, sneeze guards, brochure holders, and protective covers.
Which plastics can be thermoformed?+
We thermoform acrylic, PETG, polycarbonate, ABS, HIPS, and styrene sheet. The right choice depends on the part's strength, clarity, UV exposure, and end-use environment — we'll recommend the best material.
Do I need to supply a mould?+
Not always. For one-off and low-volume parts we can produce timber or epoxy tooling in-house. For higher volumes we machine aluminium moulds for longer life and tighter detail.
